We decided to try out this famous Japanese restaurant at the Beach Rotana last evening. After walking through the lobby of the hotel, we were guided to our table outside. Indoors looked fancy, but we wanted to make the most of the (rare) winter months in Abu Dhabi. Their outdoor area has a very romantic, pleasant ambience, so it makes for a great date night venue. The service was spot on, with a super friendly waiter. Although being offered one of the international brands first, we were given local water upon request. We ordered edamame to start off with, and to keep our mouths moving during the wait to the maki. For our main meal, we ordered the Royal Makimono platter, ad three separate maki rolls (Keiko, Dynamite and Crunchy Spicy Salmon). We realized we had ordered a lot of maki for the two of us, but being the sushi lovers that we are, we managed to get through it just fine. I was slightly disappointed with the rolls, as I walked in with high expectations, and they were mediocre. Nothing spectacular as I had expected from such a nice venue. I probably wouldn’t pay that much to have their maki rolls again as I’ve been to sushi places nearby with better value for money. I have yet to try the Teppanyaki experience and will hopefully be back in the near future to check it out it out.
