Located on the 68th floor of one of Dubai’s iconic hotels, Prime68 is one of the city’s highest rated steakhouses. Curious to see what the fuss was all about, I made a reservation for 10:30 last night. As a steak enthusiast, I will easily admit that this was the most anticipated moment of my day yesterday. To my delight, Prime68 did not disappoint.
Stellar views of the city really add to the experience at this elegantly decorated, non-smoking restaurant. Ambience-wise, Prime68 keeps it classy, and maybe almost a little too quiet.
After starting us off with bread and butter, our server brought out four complimentary servings of Yorkshire pudding, topped with veal bacon and ribeye. The little taste of the meat left me craving more, and I waited patiently for our mains.
From their signature cuts, three of us ordered a medium-rare filet mignon each, while I went for a medium-rare ribeye (might as well cheat all the way). Each came with a sauce, but sides/veggies needed to be ordered separately. I got my ribeye with the Béarnaise sauce, while two of my friends got the safer peppercorn jus option. I was so pleased with my steak – it was perfectly cooked; tender, juicy and full of flavor. My béarnaise sauce was rich, creamy and herby, and just a little bit of it made my steak even more heavenly. What an incredible meal!
To go with our steak, we ordered sides of charred broccolini, loaded baked potato and organic baby heirloom carrots. The baby carrots (covered in a sweet-ish sauce) and the charred broccolini florets provided a good change of taste in between meat bites; while the loaded baked potato was indeed very loaded – with sour cream, cheese and bacon. It was fresh and fatty, just the way it’s supposed to be. I was left 100% satisfied at the end of my meal. We decided to skip dessert and instead moved upstairs to Vault for a more loungey after-dinner feel (read ‘smokes’).
I was extremely pleased with the service. However, despite a reservation, we had to wait an additional 10 minutes or so for our table to be set up. Although this was slightly irritating at first, the service, food and views eventually (more than) made up for it.
I would recommend Prime 68 for special occasions and romantic date nights, especially if you’re looking for some of the best steak in town.
