Allons-y – A quaint JLT café

It’s hard to get the word around for a place that’s tucked away in a corner of one of the easily confusable JLT clusters. This particular café is found in Cluster F, if you make your way down from HDS tower. I was invited to review Allons-y by the owner & chef, Juno just a few weeks into opening. A friend and I decided to stop by for a late breakfast one morning, and were greeted warmly by the fairly new owner.

The place had a cute modest interior, with quotes on the wall and colorful tables/chairs. I thought the walls could be decked out a little bit more to make it look cute, cosy and vibrant, and a little more thought into the layout of the tables would have been fantastic.

We ordered:

  • 1 coffe float
  • 1 vanilla sky
  • 1 ‘fullfy’ pancakes

The menu has a few typos that need fixing, as I want to say they meant ‘fluffy‘ & ‘coffee‘?

I’m not a coffee person, but the vanilla sky, one of their house specials, was rich, creamy and sweet. The coffee float tasted a bit watered down, and could be stronger in my opinion.

We ordered the pancakes with nutella and strawberries. The (gluten-free!!) pancakes were the highlight of our little coffee date. Made with no flour (!) and only rice and coconut, these pancakes were unlike any I’ve had before – so light, airy..  and fluffy indeed.

It was quiet when I went on a Saturday at around 11 AM, but I think it will pick up as more people hear about it and the office-goers nearby hunt down a breakfast spot. I loved how light their pancakes felt, and was delighted to find out that they make them as both savoury and sweet (although I would probably always pick sweet).

I would go back to Allons-y for the pancakes, but maybe not for the coffee/service. Check it out & tell me what you think!
